Databricks training your team uses on Monday

Live, hands-on Databricks workshops for teams of up to 12 — taught by a practitioner who holds the certifications and ships production lakehouses. No slideware marathons. Your engineers write code all day, in your workspace, on problems that look like yours.

Team training is priced on request. Limited training dates each month — dates confirmed within one business day.

Formats

Team training, priced on request

Pick the depth you need — a 1-day workshop, a 3-day bootcamp, or a multi-week certification cohort. Every format is live, hands-on, and taught by me, the same certified engineer who does the consulting work. Scoped and quoted after a short call, with a fixed price before anything is booked.

Curricula

Five workshop deep-dives

Each is a full day: short focused theory blocks, then labs. Every syllabus below is a starting point — the pre-call trims what your team already knows and goes deeper where it hurts.

Lakehouse Fundamentals

For teams new to Databricks or migrating from a warehouse. Build a working lakehouse in a day.

  • Delta Lake: ACID tables, time travel, schema evolution
  • Medallion architecture done properly
  • Clusters, compute types, and when serverless wins
  • Databricks SQL and dashboards
  • Orchestration with Jobs and Lakeflow

Unity Catalog & Governance

For platform teams who need governance that auditors accept and engineers tolerate.

  • Metastore, catalogs, schemas: a layout that scales
  • Grants, groups, and least-privilege patterns
  • Row filters, column masks, and lineage
  • Migrating off hive_metastore without downtime
  • External locations, volumes, and Delta Sharing

Performance & Cost Tuning

For teams whose DBU bill grew faster than their data. For teams with a six-figure annual DBU bill, one avoided mistake can cover the workshop cost.

  • Anatomy of a DBU bill: where the money actually goes
  • Cluster policies, autoscaling, and spot strategies
  • Photon and serverless: when they save, when they don't
  • Reading the Spark UI: skew, spill, and shuffle
  • Delta file layout: OPTIMIZE, liquid clustering, VACUUM

Gen AI on Databricks / Mosaic AI

For teams under pressure to ship AI features without shipping an incident. Includes AI security throughout.

  • Mosaic AI Model Serving and foundation model APIs
  • Vector Search and RAG pipelines on your documents
  • Agents, tools, and the Mosaic AI Agent Framework
  • Evaluation: judging quality before your users do
  • AI Gateway, guardrails, and prompt-injection defense

MLOps with MLflow

For data science teams whose models work in notebooks and nowhere else.

  • Experiment tracking that survives team turnover
  • The model registry in Unity Catalog
  • Deployment patterns: batch, streaming, Model Serving
  • Monitoring, drift, and retraining triggers
  • Feature engineering and reproducible pipelines

Something else?

Streaming with Structured Streaming, DLT/Lakeflow pipelines, Databricks on Azure specifics, Terraform for workspaces — if it's Databricks and I run it in production, I can teach it. Tell me the gap. Upskilling a single engineer rather than a team? 1:1 Databricks mentoring is usually the better fit — or hands-on Databricks consulting if you need it built with you rather than taught.

Delivery

Live, hands-on, in your workspace

The format is built around one rule: nobody learns Databricks by watching slides about Databricks.

Pre-call and setup

A free 30-minute call before the workshop: your stack, your skill levels, your pain points. I adjust the agenda and we sort workspace access — yours with a training cluster, or my sandbox with prepared datasets.

Workshop day

Live over video, full day, up to 12 people. Short theory blocks, then labs where everyone writes code. Questions get answered against your real environment, not a demo tenant.

After the day

Every attendee keeps the notebooks, lab solutions, and reference material. You get a short written summary of the questions that came up and what I'd fix in your platform first.

Why me

Train with a practitioner, not a presenter

Most corporate training is delivered by full-time trainers who last shipped code years ago. I teach the same material I use in consulting engagements the rest of the week — and I hold the certifications your team is aiming for.

  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional
  • Databricks Certified Machine Learning Professional
  • Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer Associate
  • 28 Microsoft certifications
  • SQLBits speaker 2022–2026
  • Creator of DailyDatabricks.tips

Answers from production

When someone asks "but what happens when the metastore migration hits a legacy mount?", they get an answer from a person who has done that migration — with the failure modes, not the marketing version.

Certified in what I teach

I hold the professional-level Databricks certifications in data engineering and machine learning, plus the Gen AI Engineer Associate. I've sat the exams your team will sit, recently enough to remember them.

Opinionated, with reasons

You won't hear "it depends" and a shrug. You'll hear what I'd do on your platform, why, and what I'd trade off — the judgment your team is actually missing, not another feature tour.

Outcomes

What attendees leave with

Working code

Every lab notebook and solution, runnable in your own workspace the next morning — not a PDF of screenshots.

Reference material

Checklists and decision guides for the topic — cluster policy patterns, a Unity Catalog grant model, a cost-review checklist.

A prioritized fix list

A short written note after the day: the issues in your platform that surfaced during labs, ranked by what to fix first.

A line to the trainer

Follow-up questions by email for two weeks after the workshop are included. Stuck on a lab you re-ran? Ask.

FAQ

Training questions, answered

How much does Databricks training cost?

Team training is priced on request. Workshops are a flat day rate for up to 12 people — not per seat — and bootcamps and certification cohorts are scoped to your team. You get a fixed quote before anything is booked.

How many people can attend a workshop?

Up to 12 people per workshop. That cap is deliberate: every attendee runs the labs, asks questions, and gets their code looked at. For larger teams, I run multiple cohorts or split the group across days.

Is the training delivered in our own Databricks workspace?

Yes, wherever possible. Training in your workspace means the examples use your clusters, your Unity Catalog setup, and your cost profile — so lessons transfer directly. If access is a problem, I provide a sandbox workspace with prepared datasets instead.

Can you customize the workshop agenda for our team?

Yes. Every workshop starts from a proven syllabus, but the agenda is adjusted after a short pre-call: your stack, your skill levels, and the problems you actually have. The 3-day bootcamp goes further and is built entirely around your data estate.

Do you run Databricks certification prep for teams?

Yes. The certification cohort is a multi-week program that prepares a group for Databricks certification exams — study plan, weekly live sessions, practice questions, and exam technique from someone who holds the Data Engineer Professional, Machine Learning Professional, and Generative AI Engineer Associate certifications.

Is on-site delivery available?

Workshops are live and remote by default, which keeps the price down and scheduling simple. On-site delivery in the UK and Europe is available on request — travel costs are quoted up front alongside the day rate.
